The Non-Trepreneurs – Escaping Corporate Life for a Life of Financial Freedom

The Non-Trepreneurs Escaping Corporate Life for a Life of Financial Freedom Personal Finance UK FIRE Book Early Retirement

Imagine never having to work again, no more setting your alarm or sitting in rush hour traffic.

Imagine all the extra time you’ll have from not working, to do whatever you want.

Welcome to the world of Financial Freedom
Welcome to The Non-Trepreneurs

In our book, The Non-Trepreneurs, you’ll discover how we escaped corporate life for a life of financial freedom. However, we don’t rave about how ‘anyone can do it!’. They can’t. It’s hard. Becoming financially free is a difficult, long and slow process. We know, because we’ve done it.

We reached financial freedom in 2015, aged 43, so have a good few years of what some describe as ‘living the dream’. We didn’t win the lottery, inherit a fortune or develop and sell a business. We didn’t find freedom by being entrepreneurs (hence the title of the book).

We’ll give you an honest view, along with the good, the bad and the ugly of not only setting off on the path to financial freedom, but also what might happen when you actually achieve your goal.

What You’ll Learn in The Non-Trepreneurs

Talking about money is taboo in many of our lives. Who knows how much income their parents, siblings and friends have, or maybe even their other half, or how much they owe on loans, mortgages, store and credit cards? It’s a difficult subject to discuss and heavily intertwined with emotion. We’ve tried our best to describe the process we went through in The Non-Trepreneurs:

  • what drove us to create a huge change in our lives
  • the mindset we needed to adopt
  • the practicalities of tracking and reducing our spending
  • how we increased our income
  • how we learned to invest for the long-term.

There is no magic. The steps we describe in the book are age-old, but little discussed in our world. The Non-Trepreneurs will enable you to take a peek into our personal finances, and hopefully gain an understanding of what’s needed to enable you to gain your own freedom from the world of mandatory work well before the usual retirement age.

Why Did We Write The Non-Trepreneurs?

After we achieved financial independence (we have enough money coming in from our residual income streams to cover all of our outgoings), we quit work and set off travelling in our motorhome. On the road we bump into people and get chatting. When they ask us how long we’re on the road for, the answer is usually somewhere between a month and, well, sometimes years. That’s when we see it, the follow-on question in their eyes: How on Earth can you afford to do that? You don’t look old enough to be retired? Where does the money come from? Sometimes they ask, other times the question just hangs there.

The answers are simple enough, although the detail takes some explaining, which is why we’ve written and published The Non-Trepreneurs. For a long time we thought the only way to get free of the rat race was to be an entrepreneur, to invent something or to run a business. We simply couldn’t come up with something to enable us to become entrepreneurs. However, we did have valuable skills and well-paid jobs in the corporate world. So, we used those skills to eventually set us free of the need to work for a living, we became Non-Trepreneurs.

Our personal situation is unique to us, so we’ve pulled in examples of others we’ve come across from different backgrounds, with different family make-ups, who live in different countries and have differing income goals. Our overall aim with the book has been to lift the lid on what’s needed to build enough long-term passive income to effectively enable early retirement.

Want a Freebie Taster?

If you just want a taster instead of (or before) paying for the book, we wrote a free mini-guide eBook a couple of years ago, which covers the basics: Funding Freedom is available from Amazon and from Smashwords.

OurTour Other Books

We started off writing books about motorhome life, as that is what we have chosen to do with the time we no longer spend in the office. We’ve written several from practical guides to stories of our travels. You can find them all on Amazon UK or your local Amazon site.

    Hi both
Hoping this finds you you well.
Just thought I would add a comment regarding the 90/180 day rules for staying in the Schengen area.
The NZ government has negotiated additional time that Kiwis can stay in some Schengen countries over and above the 90 days in 180. This will be attached to the new ETIAS permit system to be implemented in either 21 or 22.
    The countries offering Kiwis additional length of stay periods currently are;
    Greece 90 days
    Spain (90 days)
    France (90 days)
    Austria (3 months)
    Portugal (90 days)
    Finland (90 days)
    Sweden (3 months)
As yet I’m unsure if this means we can come and go, accumulating this time, or that we could tour other European countries for the initial 90 days and then stay in say Spain, Portugal and France for the additional 3 months of our tour, either way it looks good for our future European rambles.
Perhaps this is something the UK will also negotiate once the initial challenges of Brexit are overcome. I’m sure this would help a lot of UK motorhome travellers should it eventuate, there’s always hope.
    All the Best.
