Motorhome Tour 2016

Our 2016 Ten Month Motorhome Tour – Ski Resorts and Summer in Scandinavia

Tour Summary

In January 2016 we set off to tour Scandinavia. As we were aiming to get there for summer, we had a few months to spare. We spent a few weeks in the ski resorts of France, before heading south for some sunshine. We took the Mont Blanc Tunnel into Italy and drove across the country. After some fun checking out The Italian Job sites in Turin, and a visit to the Ducati factory in Bologna, not to mention eating plenty of ice creams, we nipped into San Marino before catching a ferry to Croatia. We stopped on one campsite for a fortnight, a record for us, before starting out trip north.

Through Slovenia, we stopped in Vienna for a couple of days, then carried on North into Slovakia and the Tatras Mountains. In Poland we visited Warsaw and slept next to the Wolf’s Lair. In Lithuania we saw the Communist statues at Grutas Park and we stayed in the capital Vilnius, before heading over to Latvia. Here we paddled in the Baltic Sea on our way north to Estonia, where we caught the ferry to Helsinki, Finland. Through Finland we took in the Wife Carrying World Championships in Sonkajarvi, and popped into Santa Claus’ home in the Arctic Circle. Crossing into Norway we made our way to Nordkapp, the top of Europe, before starting our trip south along the Norwegian coast.

We took over two months travelling down through Norway, surrounded by stunning scenery at every turn. In Oslo we stood on the deck of Amundsen’s ship, The Fram, before heading East into Sweden for a couple of days in Stockholm. After visiting the Ikea Museum in Almhult we took the Oresund Bridge into Denmark, and visited the Carlsberg Experience, Tollund Man, ARoS and Legoland.  We stopped off with friends in Germany before driving across the Netherlands to catch the ferry from the Hook of Holland to Harwich.
