No escaping the snow, Anthy-Sur-Léman, France

February 12, 2016/16 Comments/in Blog, France

Zagan the motorhome hasn’t moved today and isn’t planning on. He’s still in the free aire at Anthy-Sur-Léman on the shores of Lake Geneva/Lac Léman (N46.35884 E6.42183). Our plan to come here to defrost hasn’t entirely worked.

Foolishly, we figured being here by the lake we’d be away from the white stuff as the weather forecast predicted rain. It was right for a few hours, the rain and warmer temperatures were enough to enable us to dislodge a thick layer of ice on our solar panel, but this has now been replaced by a few inches of snow. It started this morning and shows no signs of letting up for a couple of days as a storm crosses this area of France.

We’re under the blue bit

The local snowplough (adapted JCB) has been past a couple of times, while we sit wrapped in sleeping bags with hot drinks watching the big fat flakes fall. Some of the locals are driving about as if there isn’t any snow (winter tyres?), others have spun their way past, no signs of chains….yet.

Not a bad location to stay for a while

Not a bad location to stay for a while

We’ve checked the internet and the whole area is getting a dumping, so there’s no point in moving. The maps have been out to plan a route out when it does clear up, so we’re just relaxing and having a ‘day off’. We have full tanks of gas, plenty of diesel if we need to run the engine to charge the batteries, a fridge loaded with food and it’s Friday afternoon, so there’s only one thing to do; crack open a bottle of red to help keep out the cold – yes, I did say bottle, not brik!!

Have a great weekend.

Then only 2 more bottle to go and get the corks from and put them under you wipers to keep them off the glass then they will not freeze to the windscreen.

Haha! We’re out of the snow at the moment, but might well be persuaded to pose when we come across some more of the stuff!

For me I would go to Interlaken, Switzerland which is around 130 miles from where you are now…then liechtenstein again another 130 miles from Interlaken then onwards to Neuschwanstein Castle another 100 miles

Don’t blame you Susan! Got an hour of sun today and it’s 12 degrees, so pure luxury. As was that bottle of wine, €2.50! Nice it was though.
