Although Hungary is in the EU it doesn’t use the Euro. It uses the Hungarian Florin (HUF), so the costs above are based on the assumption that one Euro is worth 277 HUF at the time of our visit.<\/div>\n

Wild camping is allowed in Hungary in fact we only went to a campsite to make it easier to visit Budapest. We easily parked up right on the banks of Lake Balaton without any problems for a couple of days. Although we have found a few car parks in tourist locations now starting to charge for parking which can make wild camping quite expensive.<\/div>\n

We tried not to have a Vignette figuring we’d be able to get around using minor roads, however the Vignette is not just for motorways and a couple of times we found a road we were driving along suddenly required one, so we stopped at a petrol station and bought one for a week which cost \u20ac10.71 because Dave is under 3.5t so is classed as a car. Over 3.5t you need to a ‘pay as you go’ type box fitted to your vehicle.<\/div>\n

Although we didn’t need to, we topped up with Diesel before we left to spend the last of our local currency – the rest of it was spent in a Tesco supermarket shop – although I didn’t dare see if my Clubcard would work!<\/div>\n
