Zagan the motorhome loves a sea view, we all do. So he’s super happy to be parked up at Nicholaston Farm Campsite on The Gower in Wales, where he has a beautiful view across the sands of Oxwich Bay (N<\/a>51.573515, W4.132478<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’d heard about The Gower years ago and since mentioning we’re coming here loads of people have said it’s one of their favourite places in the UK, and we can see why. As we crossed the cattle grid at the entrance to the peninsular, the surroundings changed from urban to rural in an instant. Sheep grazed at the side of the road, which narrowed to a squeaky bum width in several places. We weren’t in a hurry though, so we slowed down, stopped where we needed to, and threaded our way through the traffic to reach Nicholaston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first steps on the beach, we’re beyond excited. We love a beach.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If I’m honest, there really isn’t much here. Apart from a smattering of houses, the campsite pretty much is Nicholaston. Fortunately the campsite shop seems to stock everything you’ll ever need, including freshly baked croissants in the morning and pizzas in the afternoon. From the campsite the huge, empty Oxwich beach is a short, but steep walk downhill – steep enough to take your breath away in places. The coastal path runs by the site too, which takes you across the cliff tops for fantastic views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After mis-timing the tide on a beach walk, we took the coastal path back from Three Cliffs Bay – it was worth it for the views.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"Gower<\/a>
The coastal path is really well marked and easy to follow, if a bit upppy, downy,<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We’ve also walked (and ran) part of the Gower Way which runs across the centre of the peninsular, again offering amazing views in all directions. But I think to really explore the place you need a car or other mode of transport. We could take the bus, the stop is right outside the campsite, or could have brought our bikes with us, but in reality we knew what we wanted from this trip and that was to relax – so that’s what we’re doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we are on The Gower Way – great views across both sides of the peninsular, but we were entertained by our shadows in the setting sun.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I do love a planorama, every walk should have one, and this one on the Gower Way didn’t disappoint.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We’ve walked a bit, run a bit, read a bit, watched some TV, pretty much what we’d do at home, but with a stunning background that just makes me smile. The campsite facilities are top notch, so we’re the cleanest we’ve ever been as the showers are modern, spotless and better than our one at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Nicholaston<\/a>
Seriously, this shower block is nicer than our bathroom at home.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The price did make us wince a bit when we booked at \u00a335 a night including hook-up, but since then we’ve booked our next site which is the same price but without electricity – it seems it’s the going rate for a place around here. So we’re treating ourselves, and having a little holiday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring the coastal path we were surrounded by a carpet of bluebells and wild garlic.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We spent a lovely evening chatting with fellow motorhomers Mark and Wendy, and snuggling up to their Newfoundland pooches Ted and Blossom, who may be the size of bears, but have such gentle natures. Tonight we’re being taken out by Claire and Sam. We met these guys in Tozeur, when we toured Tunisia in our motorhome in 2013<\/a>. They rode into a campsite as part of their round the globe adventure. We did a double-take at two British registered bikes, they did a double-take at a British registered van – and as we were all the only people on the campsite, of course we got talking. Since that day we’ve followed them virtually as they gone on to do some amazing stuff, so we can’t wait to find out all about it in our first proper catch up in almost a decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow we move on to our second campsite on The Gower, and our first weekend here. Perhaps the beaches will fill up, but they’re so vast that I doubt it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
