We&#8217;ve had massive (and literal) highs, starting\u00a0on 1 January when we woke to find we were the <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/inspiring-folks-via-bbc\/\">most watched video on the BBC website<\/a> &#8211; that was one surreal day!\u00a0The first half of the year was mostly spent nursing our little man Charlie (our very own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ENno8VL556s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">littlest MoHo!<\/a>), and pootling around slowly in the motorhome with him before <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/an-obituary-for-charlie-snore-loudly-our-little-man\/\">we finally had to say goodbye<\/a>. We miss him every day. A couple of weeks later, Jay competed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/race-report-2018-zermatt-gornergrat-half-marathon-switzerland\/\">Zermatt half marathon<\/a> in early July, and we&#8217;ve both since enjoyed doing much more running. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-29686 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/ourtourmedia.s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_20180707_141630409_HDR-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Zermatt Half Marathon 2018\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourtourmedia.s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_20180707_141630409_HDR.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ourtourmedia.s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_20180707_141630409_HDR-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ourtourmedia.s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_20180707_141630409_HDR-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ourtourmedia.s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_20180707_141630409_HDR-678x381.jpg 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/> We&#8217;ve crossed a few more things off our bucket lists &#8211; standing by the Cutty Sark to watch Mo Farah and my best mate run the London Marathon, going to our <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/luxury-festival-living-carfest-north-by-motorhome\/\">first festival in a motorhome<\/a> (and Carfest was such a blast we&#8217;ve already booked for next year), taking part in our local half marathon, running our first Park Runs (and subsequent ones in Paris and The Eden Project as well as a few other locals ones with our running club mates) and <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/abondance-and-the-fantasticable-of-chatel-savoie-french-alps\/\">flying high on a zip wire<\/a> in the French mountains.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yFUlrZiGXJI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We self-published another book &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/the-motorhome-touring-handbook\/\">The Motorhome Touring Handbook<\/a>. I think this is the book I am most proud of, it certainly took the longest to write. We&#8217;ve managed to put down pretty much everything we&#8217;ve learned about motorhoming on our travels in one place. Our hope is it&#8217;ll encourage more folks to travel in a campervan or motorhome, and we&#8217;re really pleased we&#8217;ve have some lovely feedback about it. Regular visitors to this site will see that we have refreshed how it looks, but more importantly we&#8217;ve spent a lot of time reorganising things in the background so blog posts and information is easier to find. We&#8217;ve achieved a few goals too, mainly personal fitness ones based around running &#8211; including Jay running <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/my-first-baby-ultra\/\">his first baby Ultra marathon<\/a>. Having spent quite a bit of time back home in Nottingham, we&#8217;ve also developed a great circle of friends in our local running club &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kadsrunning.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Kimberley and District Striders<\/a>. We only managed four months away in the motorhome in 2018 over a couple of trips, probably because we like it so much at home and we&#8217;d been away such a lot in previous years. During the first trip we ambled around France and Switzerland before <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/tour-de-france-by-motorhome-2018-stage-10-in-le-reposoir\/\">catching the Tour de France in the Alps<\/a>. On another we spent a <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/paris-by-motorhome-camping-de-paris\/\">couple of weeks in Paris in our motorhome<\/a>, and it&#8217;s now a firm favourite city for us. We kept our <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1uBrPgdRbmrxy92GWWIazxSPW0uk&#038;usp=sharing\">overnight location map up to date<\/a>, which now has over 900 places across Europe, a wonderful record or us (our memories aren&#8217;t that great!) and possibly a source of destination ideas for others. At the end of January 2018 I wrote a blog post with <a href=\"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/dreams-plans-goals-2018\/\">our goals and plans for the year<\/a> &#8211; how did we do?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jay run Zermatt Half marathon &#8211; Done<\/li>\n<li>Ju local running club timed 5k in under 30 mins &#8211; Done in 28 mins 43 secs<\/li>\n<li>Ju Half Marathon &#8211; Done Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham in 2:22<\/li>\n<li>Learn Spanish &#8211; eeer not done, might need to look at that in 2019!<\/li>\n<li>Europe&#8217;s longest zip wire &#8211; Sort of done, wasn&#8217;t the one in Wales but I prefer the one we did<\/li>\n<li>Go to a festival in Zagan &#8211; Done twice &#8211; Carfest and Eastwoodstock<\/li>\n<li>Spend more time abroad in Zagan &#8211; Four months was enough for us this year!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s great to be able to look back and see how we have done compared with what we said we were going to do. I won&#8217;t mention the &#8216;B&#8217; word here, but basically we have the Chunnel booked for early January and hope not to return until mid-July. &#8216;External factors&#8217; may mean we have to pop back and sort out admin and hang around so we don&#8217;t overstay our welcome in the Schengen zone. Or we might nip over to Morocco instead, depending on what fate decides. Other plans on our radar are to head back to Zermatt in early July. This year Jay is tackling the Ultra Marathon (yes longer than a marathon and uphill!) and I&#8217;m going to try and &#8216;run&#8217; (there may be a lot of walking involved) the half-marathon. At the end of July we&#8217;re back in the UK for Carfest again, and will probably spend the summer here once more. In September we have a few runs booked in, one which takes place over 24 hours &#8211; yes, you and\/or your team runs for 24 hours. I am in a team of 8 so will probably need to run around 30km in total, Jay is in a team or 2, so no matter how far he runs, he&#8217;ll be on his feet for 12 hours &#8211; respect! I&#8217;ll have a sit down and think up some new goals for myself over the next few days &#8211; I like to have something to aim for.\u00a0Other than that, we&#8217;ll just see how things go. We may even end up getting a flight somewhere now we are footloose and pooch free. Whatever happens and wherever we go we&#8217;ll just try to make 2019 a fantastic year, so this time next year we can look back on it and feel proud of what we&#8217;ve achieved.
