{"id":10701,"date":"2013-05-16T07:46:29","date_gmt":"2013-05-16T06:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/?p=10701"},"modified":"2018-11-21T17:17:53","modified_gmt":"2018-11-21T17:17:53","slug":"free-and-cheap-overnightwild-campingfree-camping-in-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/free-and-cheap-overnightwild-campingfree-camping-in-greece\/","title":{"rendered":"Free and Cheap Overnight Motorhome Stops in Greece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I write this we&#8217;re ensconced in a campsite for a couple of nights in Greece (a <a title=\"An unexpected reunion in the ancient theatre of Epidhavros\" href=\"http:\/\/ourtour.co.uk\/home\/an-unexpected-reunion-in-the-ancient-theatre-of-epidhavros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>beautiful place<\/strong><\/a> it is too), but normally we sleep outside of camping areas for freedom and to save money. This isn&#8217;t strictly legal in Greece, and we have seen a fair few &#8216;no camping signs&#8217;. However, in many places we&#8217;ve seen the signs roundly ignored, and have in some spots been actively welcomed by the locals (especially taverna owners!).<\/p>\n<p>We hardly ever find these wild camping places for ourselves, but usually rely on other sources such as website databases and books. Here in the Peloponnese we are using a fantastic and free resource &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.co.uk\/maps\/ms?ie=UTF8&amp;oe=UTF8&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=208052491405126366919.000477f7a5b8c7faa308b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peejay&#8217;s Greece Stopovers<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Another very good resource, if you can read German or are happy with looking at the pictures (like us) are the &#8216;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=19450&amp;field-keywords=wohnmobil%20Griechenland%20nach&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;rh=n%3A266239%2Ck%3Awohnmobil%20Griechenland%20nach&amp;tag=front-page-buy-a-beer-21&amp;url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mit dem Wohnmobil nach Griechenland<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.co.uk\/e\/ir?t=front-page-buy-a-beer-21&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=2\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/strong>guides. These are focussed around off-campsite stays, and include information on finding water refills and cassette emptying places. In our wanderings to date we&#8217;ve found that water is freely available, taps everywhere, but loo emptying is difficult unless you stay on a campsite or can find and open one to nip into and pay to use the services.<\/p>\n<p>Finally if you do fancy taking a break from free camping, to get the washing done, catch up with people staying on the site and so on, then the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campingcard.co.uk\/gb\/en\/europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ACSI Low Season Discount Camping Card<\/strong><\/a> can be a great money saver. It lists out thousands of sites across Europe which charge either \u20ac12, \u20ac14 or \u20ac16 a night for two people, a motorhome, showers and electrical hook-up. A bargain, usually! Just note that if you don&#8217;t use hook-up you can sometimes get a better price &#8211; we&#8217;re paying \u20ac15 a night here and Greek sites usually come in at \u20ac16 with the discount card.<\/p>\n<p>And last, but\u00a0certainly\u00a0not least, fabulous folks send us recommendations through email, through comments on this site or when we meet up, pass on info face to face.
