Rest in Peace Charlie – You Were The Best.

Our hearts are broken. Today at 12.15pm we said goodbye to our best friend.

Charlie’s condition had got a lot worse and he was suffering, so it was time for the ultimate act of love.

He died peacefully with us by his side at the local vets. His tummy was full of gravy bones and he will stay here in amongst the snowy peaks of the Alps forever.

Goodbye little man, you will always be in our hearts. We love you.

I’m so sorry. He was such a sweetheart and it has been a joy to follow his adventures here.

His memory lives on for us. Our B544 is partly named after him (Charles M. Hymer Esq, Chuck for short).

Sending love and heart-healing energy to you both.

I feel so sad for you, you gave him the best of life until the end, giving him the option not to suffer too much.
We will remember him very fondly.. We have a 2 year old cavalier King Charles as well and seeing how cute and nice he was, was partly why we bought this breed so he will always have a special place in our heart.

RIP, all our love to you and Charlie

We’ve never met but we feel like we know you and Charlie through your wonderful blogs, we’ve laughed at Charlie’s antics and aaawed at his cuteness, we cried when we read yesterday’s post of the longest day, the video nearly did us both in, we’re so very sorry for your loss but also know that Charlie had the best doggy life he could have wished for.

There are many good things about your blog but Charlie truly was the best! I have no doubt that you gave him a rich and enjoyable life, loved him dearly and nursed him tenderly in his old age. You’ve done the right thing by letting him enjoy all his adventures with you and by now letting him go.
Having “lost” a few pets and had to play God, I know it hurts deeply so I feel for you both. Losing a pet is acknowledged to be a really tough bereavement, second to losing a child, because of their unconditional love and because they were woven into your routines and the fabric of your day so they leave a really big hole. I’m sure you do (or will) recognize this and the grieving will be long because they mean so much to us but with many cherished moments to remember along with recognizing the privilege it was for you to have had him in your lives and that you did right by him.

So sorry to hear about Charlie. Still miss every dog we have ever had particularly Rosie Border Collie although since then we have Rocco Miniature Schnauzer (namesake St. Rochas, patron saint of dogs) who is great fun although almost totally disobedient.

I found when we lost Rosie 3 years ago after I shattered my tib & fib I would fuss every dog I came across-as a psychotherapist I know through ‘social synapses’ this positively changes our biochemistry. Consequences pretty obvious.

    Bless you,

    Roger

Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear this. Deepest condolences, you must be devastated. You did the best you could for him and made an immensely courageous decision. The grief will ease over time and you will fondly remember the good times the three of you shared. We lost our first dog five years ago in different circumstances, he was only three. It still reduces me to tears at times.

Your travels with Charlie were an inspiration to us in taking our dogs travelling around Europe, leaving with two poodles and returning a year later with a third.

You gave him a great life while he enriched yours in so many ways.

Finally, it may be too soon, and apologies if this is in any way inappropriate, but I hope that one day you might consider adopting another pooch. You could never ever replace a unique little fella like Charlie, but you have so much to offer a dog that I hope Charlie’s legacy will be that one (or two!) lucky pooches get to enjoy love and adventures with you, for many years into the future. Just like he did. What a great life he had.

Rest in peace Charlie. From the Woolly Wanderers
