Midnight Sun, Fire, Eagles and Fish. Steinsvik, Finnmark

Zagan the motorhome’s in heaven. We’re wild camping alongside a white sand beach just outside the tiny hamlet of Steinsvik in Finnmark (N69.87888, E21.16952). Richard and Jenny joined us yesterday afternoon, and so did the sunshine. Being way inside the Arctic, the sun’s never setting, and we’ve been treated to seeing it bounce before hitting the Arctic Ocean the past couple of nights. The first night we were a little further around the coast (N69.81151, E21.12914) but we moved here yesterday after spotting a German camper enjoying the beach.

This is going to be a short blog post folks as, being honest, I’d rather be sat outside in the sun in this magical place. Richard and Jenny are staying here with us again tonight, and they’re fab company. We’ve fished, watched the birds, swam in the Arctic, I’ve snorkelled, we’ve cooked over a couple of open fires fuelled with tinder-dry driftwood, and sunk a glass of wine or two. All of this with a surreal and beautiful backdrop of snow-flecked mountains, distant waterfalls and glaciers. Holy cow man, Norway is proving a pure joy to be in.

Plenty of slate around here - there's a quarry up the road - these tiles probably travelled about 50 metres!

Just identified our destination for next summer! Amazing views. Thanks. A boring question though: are there mosquitoes there as well as in Finland?

We’re by the coast here in Norway so less mozzies. Suspect if you go into the national parks for a hike you’ll find them.
