Lazy Sunday Watching Telly in Saint Pierre en Faucigny

Zagan the motorhome was all set for the off this morning, then we changed our minds. As it’s Saint Valentine’s Day we’d said we’d treat each other to some clean clothes, so a romantic day at a nearby laundry was planned. This meant moving to another aire about 5km away, which was further away from the trains. Not that they kept us awake last night, in fact we hardly noticed them now.

Just before the off I was giving Charlie a cuddle and he was scratching his ear, this happens frequently like a nervous tick, but a quick look in his ear showed that he’s got another ear infection – poor fella. The aire we are currently at in Saint Pierre en Faucigny (N46.05882,E6.37455) is across the road from a pharmacy; its flashing sign keeping us updated on the time and temperature – currently 16:58 and 7°c. You can get most pet medications from the pharmacies in France. As we still have his nearly empty ear drops, tomorrow when it re-opens we’ll take in the box and see if they have what we need; if not there is a vets about 150m away as a back-up. Decision made. We’ll get Charlie sorted tomorrow morning and stay here lapping up the free electricity today.

I headed across the train tracks to the nearby petit Casino (corner shop) for a baguette and came back with some Saint Valentine’s day treats; a bit of steak for tea and some nice beers for Jay. As I wandered back I noticed all the other vans in the car park had their satellite dishes up. Hang on a minute! We have electric hook-up, which means we can have the telly on! We’d not thought about it last night, opting to watch a film on the laptop instead. Up went the dish and the rest of the day has been very lazy watching Sunday Brunch and the Rugby, as the mountains around us remained shrouded in cloud and rain showers swept across us. It was great to see England do so well, sports events like that are the reason we’ve bothered to keep the telly in the van after we missed out on the London Olympics because we were on the road.

With not much to report today, I thought I’d share a tip with you. Usually one of our overhead lockers is like a snake’s wedding, full of cables and chargers all tangled up in each other, which makes it very annoying when you need to get out just one. Finally we may have found a solution. We have a plastic box which fits in the locker, inside it go all the charges, but each in their own see-through, resealable bag – basically a freezer bag (ours were from a well-known Swedish furniture retailer). It seems to be working well at the moment.

I bet many of you already do this, or maybe something even better, so if you have any tips that help make your motorhome life easier and you want to share them, please add them as a comment below?

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day everyone!

Ju x

PS – Jay is still trying to fix the email updates, it’s now sending some out, but not others. A step forward, however as we don’t know which ones it’s not sending, or why, it’s an ongoing confusing saga.

or I’ll use rubber bands. Always a use for rubber bands especially when those resealable bags don’t reseal. I also carry croc clips for everything and anything.

I’m a big fan of you chaps and as you are living my adventure for me, I have become lazy ! Reminds me of an old American film tech joke.

Also use bags for shavers and cables etc … otherwise can’t match the device to the cable! Had wondered why the email updates had stopped!
A recent top tip … I’ve just sewn loops onto towels – fed up of picking wet towels off the floor.

I’m the same, loops on all towels and tea towels. Managed to get them the right length to hang from one side of the van to the other using the overhead lockers. We have quick drying towels, so usually dry by the time we get back from a wander.
