It’s Curtains for us!! Thermal Black Out Lining.

OK, more specifically it’s curtain linings for me for the next few trips.

When we were gearing Dave up for our last trip I spent a whole day sewing linings to all his curtains, begrudging the fact that I had recently sold my sewing machine! Sure he had blackout roller blinds on the habitation windows, but as they were old they’d often get stuck, so we opted to use the curtains instead.

Zagan’s curtains are a darker material, but they still let in a lot of light, and when we slept in a car parks we were often under a light seemingly brighter than the sun! He also has a different design of blind, concertina things which do block out all the light, but after a few goes with them we were quickly back to shutting the curtains.

Can you guess which one I have lined?

A quick measure up gave the width I needed and that I could do them all with just six metres of white blackout and thermal curtain lining fabric.

Instead of trying to do it all in one day, this time I am tackling a different set of curtains on each trip. The curtains on both side windows and those separating the cab from the habitation area will be lined, which will not only stop light coming in, they will keep us snug in colder weather. As Zagan only has blinds across his cab windows, that has almost halved the amount of sewing compared to what Dave needed, so there will be less complaining this time around.

We (well the Missus) have also been sewing…seat covers as defence against the torpid terriers and net curtain for the loo. We hit France in 28 days and 7 hrs (not counting down). Will pack a few beers just in case our orbit intersects with yours……

We have seat covers in place for pampered pooch, but I am a tad worried about net curtains for the loo! Is there a window in there? Fingers crossed we’ll catch up with you for a cheeky beer or brik of wine. :)

With our Hymer 510, we invested in some silver external screens for the colder weather in England and lorry reflective internal screens for now. Got these last from eBay for £25 and they fit behind the concertina blinds at front and side of cab. Apart from that all the other blinds give total blackout and we have never used the curtains. But we all do what suits and I’m sure your solution will work well. I wonder what Andy would say😱? Travel well when it comes.

We have the external silver screens (came with Zagan) and we found these worked really well with Dave. Please let me know how you get on with the internal ones, we found in Dave that his windscreen was soaked with condensation after a cold night, does this get onto the internal screens? Always after ways to keep warm :)
