J gearing up to destroy the pond

Power Mad!

We had a leaflet through the door offering free rental valuations – how could we refuse?  It’s over a year before we go, but it’ll help us with our budgeting if we can get an idea now of how much money we’d get renting the house out while we’re away.

A nice man visited us and toured the place (didn’t take long), then tried to sell us his services.  We’ll make a decision nearer the time as to who be use, but one useful thing he did mention was that we’d have to either cover or drain the pond.  Well, I’m not a big fan of the pond – it’s always so green you can’t see the fish and we get invaded by frogs every year.  J didn’t take much convincing either – especially when he realised he’d need a power tool in order to destroy it.

The fella who built the pond ensured there would be no leaks by basically making it out of concrete – very thick concrete in places. Thanks to Scott, who loaned us his breaker, J was able to make short work of it over a couple of days.  The fish were re-homed to my Dad’s mate Vic in return for some topsoil which nicely finished off the hole.

It’s now a few weeks later and the grass seed has taken, albeit a slightly different colour grass. So, where there once was pond there is now additional ball play space for Charlie.
